Surgical cricothyrotomy, where a scalpel is used to provide ventilation through an incision on the trachea, is the most effective procedure, but it is highly invasive. It requires a high level of skill, experience and optimal controlled working conditions. The needle cricothyrotomy on the other hand, which is a procedure preferred by paramedics, is where a cannula is placed in the trachea through a needle from a syringe. It is easier to perform and preferred by the paramedics for several reasons, but also because of their daily experience of handling syringes. However, this method does not provide as effective ventilation due the small diameters of the cannula.

Cric is a single-use cricothyrotomy tool that combines the advantages of the needle and surgical cricothyrotomy in a designed form optimized for a pre-hospital context. It provides confidence for pre-hospital health professionals to choose surgical cricothyrotomy instead of less effective procedures. It minimizes the necessary skill and experience required to perform an otherwise complicated procedure.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=”2″][vc_column_text]2015 | Individual Work | 10 weeks[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=”0″][vc_column_text]in collaboration with Laerdal Medical & Umea Ambulance Station[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=”2″][vc_icon icon=”fa fa-bookmark” heading_semantic=”h6″ text_size=”fontsize-160000″ text_reduced=”yes”]IF Design Talent 2017, IDEA 2016 Finalist, Core77 2018 Runner up[/vc_icon][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row unlock_row_content=”yes” row_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ equal_height=”yes” gutter_size=”3″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”2″ expand_height=”yes” overlay_alpha=”50″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ width=”1/2″][vc_single_image media=”66232″ media_width_percent=”100″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_height_percent=”0″ back_image=”66659″ parallax=”yes” overlay_color=”color-prif” overlay_alpha=”28″ gutter_size=”3″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ row_height_pixel=”500″][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”1″ overlay_alpha=”50″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ width=”1/1″][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”div” text_size=”h3″ text_italic=”yes” text_color=”color-lxmt”]”These cases are not so often, we only had one case in the last five years.”
